Philosophy

During the last decade, the preparation done prior to playing a game and training has
evolved enormously. Tiger Woods, for example, always arrives 50 minutes before he
tees off. This warming up and preparation routine allows him to manage moments of
pressure effectively, during his round of golf.

One of the errors I often see on the driving range is when golf students(pupils) come to
practice for practice’s sake. By this I mean, taking a 7 iron or even a driver and then
hitting a basket of balls with the same club. During a round you will never hit with a 7
iron more than twice in a row, so why hit twenty in a row?

One needs to break down the wall that separates the driving range from the golf course.
In fact, golf is the only sport where one practices in one location (the driving range) but
the actual game is played in a different location (the golf course).

Mental

Dr John Pate

The 30 March 2009, I was fortunate to meet Dr John Pate in Willyhof during a Swiss PGA conference.

He works with many touring pros on the European tour like, Darren Clarke, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Broadhurst, Thomas Björn, and many moore.

The biggest problem on the tour, is the player fear of failure instead of thinking about winning the tournament. Trust in your capacity is one of the biggest key to success.

Exercise

To increase your confidence and your feeling in putting. Close your eyes while your make some short putt,( 2 or 3 meters), you will feel that your stroke is more under control and you have a better follow through.

Dave Alred MBE PhD

I had the chance to meet Dave on the 26 and 27 October 2009 during a Swiss PGA conference.

Winning or loosing is minimal, as thin as a painting layer. Language affect behavior and performance. So make sure you say the right words to your athlete.

"You cannot cure pressure, but you can delay!"
